The United Nations is humanities' effort to join together to solve the problems of all of mankind. Any
flaws inherent in this great organization represent goals for improvement and not reasons for
disrespect.
The Bush administration has an ambiquous relationship with the United Nations. On the one hand, it will
attack the integrity and utility of the organization, and on the other hand it will appeal to it for
a resolution to control some situation that the United States does not have the power to control by
itself.
Bush's attacks on the United Nations stem from his fear that its members will try to tell it how
to behave in some way. His appeals for support stem from the very real fact that most things that
happen in the world are out of the control of the United States.
The sacrifice of some power to the United Nations is well worth the benefit. The United Nations is
more likely to put pressure on rogue nations to toe the line than it is likely to put pressure on the
current rogue government of the United States.
The United Nations is in a far better position than the United States to stop nuclear proliferation,
to control world population growth, to fight worldwide starvation and disease, to end local wars and
genocide, to protect the environment, and so on.
It is obviously in the best interests of the United States, and of all of mankind, to support the
United Nations
